In this guide, you will learn how to set up a TU Dresden email account in K-9 Mail for Android. You can then send and receive emails.


Installation

You can download K-9 Mail here:  

Mailbox setup

  1. Select “START” after starting the app for the first time.

  2. Enter your primary email address in the “Email address” field and confirm by clicking the “NEXT” button.

    Note on email addresses:
    These usually take the form “firstname.lastname@[mailbox.]tu-dresden.de.”
    You can find your primary email address in your profile on the Self-Service Portal under “E-mail” as your “Primary email address.”

  3. The app searches for a suitable configuration but cannot find it. If “Configuration not found” appears, select “NEXT”.

  4. The “Incoming server settings” appear.
    Enter “msx.tu-dresden.de” as the “Server” and your ZIH password as the “Password”.
    The remaining entries are already configured accordingly. Confirm with the “NEXT” button.

  5. The “Outgoing server settings” appear.
    Enter “msx.tu-dresden.de” as the “Server”, select “StartTLS” under “Security” and enter your personal ZIH login in the form “user\zihlogin” as the “Username”.
    The remaining entries are already configured accordingly. Confirm with the “NEXT” button.

  6. The folder assignment appears. Here you can optionally select which folders on the mail server should be assigned to the local folders in the K-9 Mail client. Confirm by clicking the “NEXT” button.

  7. In the “Display options”, enter a name for the email account in the “Account name” field. This name will be used in the app for the name of the integrated TUD mailbox. Enter your name in the “Display name” field. This will appear as the sender of your emails. Confirm by clicking the “NEXT” button.

  8. In the “Sync options”, you can configure the “Check frequency” for the mail retrieval and the “Number of messages to display”. Confirm by clicking the “NEXT” button.

  9. You can optionally authorize K-9 Mail to receive notifications and access your contacts. If you would like to authorize K-9 Mail for this, continue with step 10.
    Otherwise, select “SKIP”. The setup is now complete.

  10. To set up notifications and access to contacts, select “ALLOW” in the Contacts and Notifications section and confirm the subsequent Android query with “Allow”. Then select “NEXT”. The setup is now complete.
