Windows is activated through the Key Management Service (KMS) and must reactivate itself every 180 days. If your system has an outdated domain or IP address for the KMS server, Windows cannot reach the activation server.

Requirements

• You have a computer with Windows 10 (Education/LTSB or Education/LTSC), which you obtained via the portal MS-Downloads (formerly Campus Sachsen).
• Your computer is connected to the TU Dresden network. If necessary, establish a VPN connection using OpenVPN and dial in with C-Tunnel-All-Networks.
  Note: A connection via Eduroam is not part of the TU Dresden network.
• You have administrative access on your computer: you are logged in with administrative privileges or can run a Windows Command Prompt "Run as administrator" prompt.

Solution

Under Attachments you will find the script "kms_renew.cmd". Run it by double-clicking and answer "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" with Yes, if necessary.
It checks whether the stored information for the activation server is set correctly and corrects it if necessary, activating Windows afterwards.
